Setting goals and wishes | A family whiteboard experiment
The new year is still untouched like freshly fallen snow. Before the magic fades and the daily grind ramps up again, we created a fun whiteboard experiment to set some family goals for the year ahead.
What are your wishes or goals for the new year? What does everyone in the family want to achieve? Surprisingly, everyone in our family was really enthusiastic about the experiment. We grabbed the magnetic board belonging to our youngest child, a whiteboard pen and lots of paper. To get started, everyone thought quietly to themselves about what could have been improved over the last year and what is to come in the new year. Because our youngest can’t read and write yet, we decided to record our thoughts with a small picture rather than words.
Almost immediately, our youngest piped up and said: “the first belt in Kung Fu!” I wasn’t surprised about that, after all, he's been talking about nothing else lately...
What came next, however, honestly surprised me: our older son said he wants to get faster. More precisely, he told us that he doesn’t just mean getting faster at doing homework, but he also wants to get out of bed quicker in the morning so that he has some time to read after breakfast. Wow! Apparently year-long nagging on my part does bear fruit after all... ;-)
My husband wants to have more time to spend some nice days with all of us together as a family. This was not possible last year – I wonder if it will be this year? The first step is already done, which is a good sign! When things are written down, they become so much more concrete, binding and remain top of mind.
What about me, then? I want to organise my everyday life better. Creating a meal plan for the week would be a good start. This would finally make up for all the lost time brooding in front of the refrigerator saying: What will I cook today?
Perhaps you might want to try out this little experiment with your own family? What about this afternoon, with a cup of hot cocoa and the rest of the Christmas goodies? Give it a go!
By the way, the magnets are completely fixed with the wall stickers from the shop.
To do this, you only need some firm cardboard, a good pair of scissors, glue and some regular magnets. The instructions are very simple: cut the circle, place the wall stickers and glue everything together on the magnet. All done! And with the remaining wall stickers the wall can be glued.
Now we want to hear from you: what goals are you spontaneously creating for the new year? More sports? More time for the family? Or just more time for yourself? We are looking forward to hearing your thoughts!
