5 tips for baking Christmas cookies with your children

With Christmas and New Year’s Eve just around the corner, here are some practical tips to make your Christmas biscuit workshop 2022 with the children a great success. You’ll find 5 tips that you can apply before, during or after this fabulous Christmas activity. Make sure this creative and delicious task becomes a quality moment spent with your children!

1. A simple recipe chosen in advance

Start by choosing an easy Christmas cookie recipe in advance that you can make with your children. If they can do it themselves, it’s even better! For example, you can choose store-bought Christmas biscuit dough, which will save you time, but won't entirely match a good homemade Christmas cookie dough! For the more experienced cook, you can find a variety of biscuit dough recipes online that are easy to make.

Shortbread, chocolate biscuits, cinnamon stars... Once you've chosen your recipe and rolled out your biscuit dough, your child just needs to put on their apron, take the cookie cutters of their choice and press the shapes out of the dough. Remember, a simple recipe chosen in advance is the best start to a successful Christmas cookies workshop. And the icing on the “cookie”: if you go to the Stickerkid website, you can create the perfect Christmas label  to decorate your biscuit tin. It will look magical!

2. Ready-made ingredients

When you’ve decided on a Christmas cookie recipe to make with your child, make sure you have all the ingredients you need beforehand. This will avoid last-minute stress and extra trips to buy missing ingredients. Especially if your child has been eager to get started ever since you told them that you were going to bake Christmas cookies together, you will want to make sure that everything is ready.

Check your cupboard and fridge to make sure you have enough eggs, flour and sugar. To make your beautiful Christmas cookies even more delicious and festive, don't forget the little edible decorations: stars, marbles, barley sugar, chocolate chips, hazelnuts, almonds or special Christmas icing. Children love them! And it's a personal touch that stands out if you’re planning to wrap them in transparent biscuit wrappers.

3. A prepped and well organized work surface

When cooking, everything needs to be well organized and this is even more the case when you’re cooking with children! Prepare and organize your worktop so that kids have a dedicated space where they can stretch out and be creative without shoving their brother, sister or friend and without knocking things over. The kitchen table is a great place to set up your child for making homemade Christmas biscuits. You will need a tablecloth (preferably plastic) to protect the table, a non-slip container to mix the ingredients, a few different shaped biscuit cutters, a small rolling pin and the different ingredients arranged separately. For example, and then put the flour in one bowl, the eggs, sugar and decorations in separate bowls to start with. Believe us, good organization makes it so much easier to enjoy a great Christmas baking session with your children.

4. Snacking is allowed!

After the children have made loads of delicious Christmas cookies, snacking is allowed (and not only for the children ;-)! Mind you, we’re not suggesting you eat raw dough or decorations, but rather the Christmas biscuits that didn’t turn out quite right and the broken pieces that can be eaten once they’ve been taken out of the oven and cooled down for a little while. It's an old tradition to taste your baked goods before giving them to your loved ones!

5. Personalized packaging for more festive Christmas cookies

Once your Christmas biscuits are ready, you can arrange them on a platter in your kitchen or living room. The prettiest creations can also be wrapped up to give to grandparents, uncles, aunts, friends and even Santa. Whether it's plastic, cardboard or glass packaging, once you have chosen the best container for your homemade Christmas cookies, you can personalize it with unique custom Christmas tags . These stickers are perfect for making your little gourmet gifts even more beautiful and fun.
