Halloween : 4 ideas for children's activities
It's almost Halloween, the spookiest event of the year! For the occasion, we’ve got 4 super easy ideas for activities and decorations you can do with your kids. And don't forget to go trick-or-treating - but remember to label each costume and accessory with so you can make sure everything makes it back home again.
Pumpkin clementines: perfect for Halloween decorations
Let's get started with the first decoration idea for your Halloween party. You just need some clementines or tangerines and a black felt pen. This Halloween decoration idea will help develop your child's creativity, and also make it more fun for them to eat fruit. A fun 2-in-1 Halloween activity that your children will love - and so will you!
Turning your clementines and tangerines into pumpkins is very simple! For this activity, just let your child be creative and draw eyes and a mouth on their clementine with the black felt pen, so it looks just like a pumpkin. Repeat and do the same thing with all the clementines and tangerines you have available, but perhaps vary the design on your creations a little. This is now a spooky, yet cute snack! Perhaps this Halloween decoration idea could even make your child want to eat fruit more often! These pumpkin tangerines can then be placed on a table or in various places around the house for amazing Halloween decorations!
Halloween’s ghosts meringues
This second Halloween food idea is a little bit more time-consuming but still very easy to make. To make about 20 ghost-shaped meringues with your tiny apprentice chef, you'll need:
- 60g icing sugar
- 60g caster sugar
- 2 egg whites
- Chocolate chips/melted chocolate
- Start by preheating the oven to 90 degrees and then whisk the egg whites at medium speed.
- When the egg whites start to become frothy, slowly add the caster sugar, gradually increasing the speed of the whisk. Continue to whisk rapidly until you get a stiff consistency.
- Sift the icing sugar into the mixture and mix gently.
- Place your mixture in a piping bag and then pipe your ghost meringues onto baking paper, placed on a baking tray. Play around with the pressure of the piping bag, until you figure out how best to shape your little ghosts (preferably in 3 "layers").
- Then bake the tray for 1 hour.
- Once they have finished baking, leave them to cool in the oven when it’s completely switched off and use the chocolate chips or the melted chocolate to form the eyes of the ghosts.
- Your ghost meringues are now ready to decorate your Halloween party table! A real treat!
Spooky peppers for the Halloween party
Another decoration and food idea for an amazing Halloween party: pumpkin-shaped peppers. For this, you’ll need a few large red, green or orange peppers that you can carve into a scary pumpkin shape.
Using a small knife, make cuts for the eyes and the mouth. Help your children control the knife, so they avoid hurting themselves with the knife. You can keep the top of the pepper as a hat to make it look even more like a pumpkin. Once your peppers are carved, you can stuff them and bake them or you can keep them raw and use them as snack holders: place raw vegetables inside to dip in dips, you can fill them with crisps, sweets etc... the choice is yours!
Magic potions with Halloween personalized labels
Ready to try some incredible magic potions for your child's Halloween party? To make these magic potions, all you have to do is mix a yellow or orange coloured juice (orange, citrus, pineapple, peach, apricot) with a little red syrup (strawberry, raspberry, forest fruit, etc.) to make a wonderful witch's nectar. This potion may seem a bit sweet, so it's up to you to adjust the different drinks to your liking, so you end up with a scary, coloured mixture... but trust us, it’s terribly good!
To avoid kids accidentally swapping their magic potions with each other during the Halloween party, you can create your own for each child. Whether it's on bottles or simple glasses, Halloween labels are easily customizable with special Halloween illustrations that fit the party theme!
Label your child's costume with Halloween stickers
We've talked enough about decorations and food, but now it's time for trick-or-treating! An activity that all children love. In the chaos of trick-or-treating, prevent your child from losing, swapping or forgetting their Halloween costume or accessories, by simply labelling each item with a personalized name label.
On the iron-on Halloween labels, in addition to adding a name and a telephone number, you can also add a themed illustration: spider, ghost or skeleton, your child can choose. Stick these personalized labels on accessories and masks as well as on clothes (costume, hat, etc.). It's easy to do and super useful!
