Our 6 tips for a safer ride home

Our 6 tips for a safer ride home

Summer is over! As autumn arrives, the days get shorter and the nights fall faster, Stickerkid gives you its 6 tips to keep your child safe on the way to school or home from their favourite activities.

Whether they're very young or very old, going to school or coming home, these 6 tips will help parents make sure their children are as safe as possible on every journey! And don’t forget to use reflective labels!

1. Show them the way

The journey from home to school, to a sports class or favourite activity, or to visit friends, should be made with parents first. This will not only familiarise your child with the route, but also show them the best way to travel.

Choose a safe route, not necessarily the shortest one! A few extra minutes and a short detour are worth the uncertainty of dangerous, busy roads.

Along the way, show your child good examples of how to behave on the road:

  • how to cross the road safely

  • how to behave on pavements

  • and the rules of the road when riding a bike or scooter

These safety rules are essential if you want your child to enjoy a safe journey.

2. Wear clear or bright clothing

In addition to the reflective items we'll describe in the following points, remember to dress your child in clear and/or bright colours when the visibility is reduced. White, yellow or pink... these will help your child to be seen more easily and, above all, from a greater distance when it's getting dark.

In the night, if a child wearing dark clothes can only be seen by a driver from 25 metres away, a child wearing clear clothes or bright colours can be seen from 40 metres away. Think about it!

3. Wear a reflective tape

Everyone remembers! We've all been given the famous reflective tape at school, that bright yellow triangle you wear around your neck for extra safety on the roads and on the way to school when it's dark outside.

This reflective triangle is also an effective safety accessory to make your child more visible when walking on the pavement or cycling at night or in low light conditions. Super practical for your child's safety!

4. Wear clothing with reflective details

Think reflective clothing is out of fashion? Think again! Backpacks, hats, jackets... in recent years, brands have once again started to design clothing and accessories to keep children safe in the dark.

Reflective details on the sleeves of jackets, behind hats and caps, and even on the straps of school bags, make it easier for your child to be seen from a distance when it's getting dark. And it's even more effective than wearing brightly coloured clothes!

5. Put lights and headlights on bikes and scooters

Bicycles, scooters, rollerblades... your child probably likes to get to school, friends' houses or after-school activities by means other than walking. When they do, they need to be visible at night, especially if they are cycling along the side of the road.

To increase your child's safety whenever they're out and about, you can equip their bike or scooter with a small light or a headlight (front and/or rear) - an almost indispensable solution when they're out and about in the dark!

Alternatively, you can stick reflective labels on your child's bike helmet, scooter or roller skates to make them easier to see in the dark and from a distance.

6. Getting home safely with reflective labels for kids

Our final tip for getting your child home safely in the dark? Reflective labels! These self-adhesive, iron-on labels can be attached to objects and clothing to help your child get home safely when it's dark or visibility is reduced.

These reflective stickers for kids are easy to attach to bike helmets, backpacks, jackets or coats, trousers or even directly to bikes or scooters. Fun and practical, these labels will stand up to the rigours of everyday use and add a personal touch to your child's belongings.
